Black Scout Quick Tips - Birch Bark as Tinder

  1. A "good rule of thumb" is to also begin to grab the dry sticks, twigs, grasses, etc., about an hour before you wish to build your fire. As you traverse the terrain, the area to your left and right, between hip and shoulder, provide dry tinder. If you can use both hands and stuff two pockets with fine, dry tinder, you will have two birds nests, one for the evening fire and one for a standby or morning fire.
